AL-Raqqa civil society organizations condemn Koven, her comrades arrest

The civil society organizations in al-Raqqa city today organized a gathering attended by dozens of members, with the aim of denouncing the arrest of the politician Leyla Koven and her comrades by the Turkish authorities. During the gathering, the statement was read by the administrator in the Women Office, Malak Mohammed.

In the beginning, the statement condemned “all the practices committed by the Turkish state against the defenseless Kurdish people, as every day there are arbitrary practices of arrest and killing, they even target the deputies of the Democratic Peoples’ Party in the Parliament and seize the municipalities that they won in the elections.”

The statement also condemned the silence of human rights organizations, regarding the crimes of the Turkish state, and added: “We, in the Human Rights Office in al-Raqqa, are afraid that these abuses will continue, especially that society in al-Raqqa has become aware that Turkey’s policy is ISIS’.

The statement called on the international community “to put pressure on Turkey to stop the policy of arresting the unarmed politicians,” and called on human rights organizations “to document these violations, break the silence and pressure the United Nations and all concerned to stop Turkey from its practices.”

The Turkish authorities arrested the politician Leyla Koven and a number of Kurdish parliamentarians this week after lifting their immunity as part of the policy of political genocide practiced by the Turkish authorities against the Kurdish people in northern Kurdistan.
