"Syrians for Detainees and Abductees" committee  start work

On April 4, Syria Democratic Council(SDC) formed a committee tasked with monitoring the files of detainees and abductees on all sides in Syria, as part of the UN appeal for releasing the detainees, fearing for their lives after the rapid spread of the Coronavirus in the world, and in order to strengthen the ceasefire process.

The unknown fate of hundreds of Syrians

The team of the "Syrians for detainees and abductees" committee, consists of 8 people tasked to communicate with all the concerned organizations and bodies with the affairs of the detainees and abductees."  the committee member Agid Farhan Ibrahim  noted that  tens of thousands of detainees and abductees existed in Syria and hundreds of them fates are unknown, as a result of the 10-year Syrian crisis. 

He noted that the file of detainees and abductees was always discussed in the Geneva and Astana talks and meetings, for political interests and agendas of the parties in connection with the Syrian crisis.

The committee establishment came after UN calls

Ibrahim pointed out that the establishment of the committee came after the UN called for releasing the detainees and the cease-fire following the rapid spread of the Coronavirus in the world, : "The members of the committee do not take sides with any political party in Syria, their tasks are to reveal the status of missing persons, detainees and enforced missing persons, and communicate with all sides without exception to release them and reveal their fate." He said.

The "Syrians for Detainees and Abductees" committee is in touch with the Syrian parties, in addition to collecting data on detainees and abductees to prepare their own files. Ibrahim said that the first steps are to collect names and data and find out who is abducted or detained, to communicate with them.

Pedroson's office has expressed its willingness to cooperate with us

He revealed that several international bodies have contacted with the committee to learn about its tasks and work such as the UN special envoy to Syria, Gir Pederson, who has expressed his willingness to cooperate with the committee.

To prove that the Autonomous Administration of the North and East of Syria readiness to cooperate with the Commission. "This file is a humanitarian one in the first place and linked to the Syrian people. There are tens of thousands of Syrian families suffering from the unknown fate of their beloved" said Agid Ibrahim, a member of the "Syrians for Detainees and Abductees" committee, and called on all Syrian parties to cooperate.
