GAZA – OMAR MUSA

On Monday, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin tasked Benny Gantz, the leader of the "Cahol Lavan / Blue White" coalition, to form the next Israeli government, after Gantz obtained a recommendation from the former Israeli army minister and leader of the "Israel Our Home" Avigdor Lieberman party, and the list The joint Arab leadership of Ayman Awda.

After the last round of the Israeli elections that took place last month, neither of the Likud and Cahol Lavan - the largest of the Israeli parties - succeeded in obtaining the required number of seats in the Knesset according to Israeli law to form a government.

Faced with this, the recommendation of Avigdor Lieberman and Ayman Awda in favor of Gantz represented a reversal of Israeli expectations, as this recommendation, which gave him 61 seats in the Knesset - enough to form an Israeli government - the Gantz party defeated Netanyahu's Likud party which received recommendation 58 59 seats in the Knesset.

Hawar news agency (ANHA) interviewed a number of political analysts and specialists in the Israeli issue to determine the implications of Gantz's mandate, and the fate of the current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the event Gantz is able to form the government. In the meantime, there are estimates that Gantz may succeed in forming an Israeli government, but these estimates are fraught with risks at the level of the alliance between Gantz and the other parties that supported him.

Everyone wants to topple Netanyahu

Palestinian political analyst Hassan Abdo believes that there is a major consensus between the parties that supported the Benny Gantz party, the most important of which are: Lieberman "Israel Our Home" and the Joint Arab List led by Ayman Awda, that Netanyahu should drop and end his political career in Israel, which led these parties to announce it recommended to Gantz the formation of the government.

Abdo appreciates, during his talk with ANHA agency, that the road to forming the government has not yet become green in front of Gantz, and he said: "There are still obstacles to Gantz, which may prevent him from forming a government." He added, "The fact that the Israeli President is mandated to Gantz to form a government does not mean that he will succeed."

Abdo notes that there are differences between the joint Arab list and the Lieberman party, and continued, "It is true that it was somewhat overlooked, but it may appear at any moment, as Lieberman considers the joint Arab list a terrorist list, and he may withdraw or oppose its presence in the government at any time."

Likewise, according to Abdo, the Joint Arab List also has its requirements to support Gantz, the most important of which is standing against the decisions that will target the Palestinians, whether Israeli settlement in the West Bank or the position on the American Century Deal, or the war on Gaza that Gantz previously threatened.

He notes that these conditions may collide with Lieberman or people from the Lieberman Party, and may hinder the formation of a government. He added, "This also does not mean that there is no possibility of compromise between them, whether by forming a narrow government in agreement and without fateful decisions, in order to remove Netanyahu from the political arena."

"There is a real opportunity for Gantz, and if he succeeds in forming the government, Netanyahu may be isolated from the political arena, but this opportunity is fraught with dangers, and at any point a bomb may explode from the parties that supported Gantz and fail to form the government," Abdo added.

In the event that Gantz is able to form a government, Abdo is estimated that the joint Arab list plays an influential role in the government, because it has 15 seats in the Knesset, and its role may affect Israeli decisions against the Palestinians, whether in dealing with Gaza or the West Bank.

Specialists in Israeli affairs believe that Gantz realizes the obstacles that exist in the way of forming the government, and therefore, in his first statement after the commissioning, he said that he would seek to form a unified national government with Netanyahu's party, before he also attacked Netanyahu with the same statement and called for the follow-up of judicial procedures regarding Corruption files directed against Netanyahu.

Is Netanyahu going to prison?

Netanyahu faces corruption charges, which, according to the Israeli media, affected his electoral picture during the last round.

At the same time, Palestinian political writer Muhammad Abu Mahdi believes that Gantz's assignment after he won 61 seats in the Knesset means that Netanyahu's new fate and position is imprisonment on charges of corruption that he has been pursuing since before the third round of the Israeli elections.

Abu Mahdi believes that the Likud’s political position in Israel will decline, adding: “Even the coalition led by Netanyahu, which is the Likud, which includes hardline religious movements, will also be subjected to a major shock, because the parallel coalition, Gantz, has a number of reservations about the concessions it obtained. Religious movements during the Netanyahu era, and the most prominent of these movements «Shas Movement».

It is expected, according to Abu Mahdi, that new laws related to concessions obtained by religious movements, such as the Shas movement, will be passed.

Politically, Abu Mahdi points out that there are many complications facing Gantz, most notably "Israeli settlement issues in the West Bank and racism approved by the Knesset during the Netanyahu era, as well as the relationship with the Palestinian people, attitudes towards Jerusalem, the deal of the century, and the war on Gaza."

Abu Mahdi pointed out that these files could constitute a stumbling block, and that there is a failure within the parties supporting Gantz's party, as the joint list refuses to support the decisions targeting the Palestinians, and it is a list that has weight in the Knesset and may lead to its loss in relation to Gantz, or reject its conditions, to thwart his efforts to form a new government.
