For the first time since 2012, the regime forces took control of the international road linking Damascus and Aleppo "M5".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that the regime forces completely controlled the Damascus-Aleppo International Strategic Highway, after completing control of the fourth al-Rashideen area, on the outskirts of the city of Aleppo.

The operation to control the road called the "M5" came for the first time since 2012 after a military operation started by the regime forces with full Russian support on the 24th of last January.

Since the start of the operation, the regime forces have been able to control about 160 areas in Idlib and Aleppo.

The process of crawling the regime to the strategic roads (M4-M5) was accompanied by great tension between the regime forces with Russian support on the one hand and Turkey on the other hand, as Turkish soldiers fell among the dead and wounded.
