Health Committee in al-Raqqa: Strenuous efforts to develop health sector

The Health Committee of al-Raqqa Civil Council has provided many medical services that will support the health reality in the city, where it has completed several projects during 2019, and future plans are being worked, 2020.

The committee's work focuses on the opening of several medical centers, the first of which is the opening of the National Hospital, and centers have distributed in the countryside and city in order to provide medical treatment for free to the residents.

Among the tasks assigned to the committee is to supervise the health centers located in al-Raqqa and its countryside, within specialized sections: (medication control- pharmacists' union - licenses - organizations - follow-ups).

Despite the lack of support and potential provided by al- Raqqa Civil Council, 2019 was the year for the advancement of the health reality by the Health Committee.

The opening of the National Hospital in al-Raqqa city has positively reflected on the lives of citizens, where it shortness the distance between the cities which contributed to alleviate their suffering for receiving medical treatment.

The hospital receives in all its departments about 60 thousand cases per- month, while their statistics recorded 1,286 major operations, and 3,161 minor operations during the year of the operation of the hospital.

The hospital was provided with an internal department, a burn curing department, which is considered one of the necessary departments in the hospital, and the preparing of the emergency department, surgery, first aid, and the department of the industrial college, which receives 970 kidney laundry sessions per month.

The committee undertakes its duty in cooperation with international relief organizations, to provide treatment and provide medical centers with the treatment of leishmaniasis, and to launch spray campaigns covering 54,000 houses in Raqqa and its countryside, where the number of injures reached 8,000, and the number increased due to the bodies in the mass graves left behind by ISIS mercenaries in the city, and dirty undrinkable water played a role in the spread of the epidemic.

Future plans for 2020

On future projects and plans for the year 2020, Joan Al-Thikhaira, Head of Administrative Affairs at the Health Committee in the Raqqa Civil Council, explained that "the committee, despite its weak capabilities and lack of financial support, will expand the college department and equip a blood bank center, in addition to the cardiac care department, and the catheter Cardiovascular, central radiology, axial plate and MRI ".

He also said that The specialized children's hospital will be prepared in the comprehensive clinic building and vaccine campaigns will be launched to combat epidemic diseases such as polio, leishmaniasis and hepatitis.

He noted that al-Raqqa Civil Council, despite the lack of capabilities, has put it on its shoulders to support the projects that the Health Committee put it in front of it, to alleviate the suffering of the people by providing treatment in these centers for free.

During ISIS domination on al-Raqqa city the health sector had been partially damaged, as well as some medical devices and centers were systematically looted, which led to the loss of most of the medical diagnostic devices in the city.
