US Defense Secretary warns: We are ready for the worst, and assassinating Soleimani is correct decision

On Tuesday, the American Defense Secretary Mark Esper warned Iran saying that his country was ready for the worst, and stressed that it was not planning to withdraw from Iraq.

Esper said in statements to CNN American website, “We have advised the US president to target Soleimani as we have known that this is the right decision.”

He added, in the context of that, “The intelligence information was convincing, and Soleimani was meeting with a terrorist official to plan for attacks.”

On the implications of that, Esper explained, “We assure our people and our allies that we are not seeking war, but if it begins, we are capable of it. Iran has continued to escalate and has not listened to our warnings and we acted as self-defense.”

Esper warned Iran, “We are ready for the worst, but we hope that Iran will resort to the de-escalation.”

On Washington's withdrawal from Iraq, the American Defense Secretary made clear, “The draft message on the withdrawal from Iraq has no value and the United States is not in the process of withdrawing.”
