Russian President arrives at Istanbul from Damascus

The President Vladimir Putin arrived in Istanbul, as on Wednesday, he will hold bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and inaugurate the “Turkish Torrent” project to pump Russian gas to Turkey.

As the Kremlin has made clear, the agenda of the Russian President for the evening of January 7 in Turkey did not include any official events, as his official visit program would begin on January 8.

According to a previous statement issued by the Kremlin, Putin would conduct on January 8 a working visit to Istanbul to inaugurate “the Turkish Torrent” gas pipeline to pump Russian gas to Turkey.

The statement pointed out that Putin would hold talks with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and focus on ways to further develop the Russian-Turkish cooperation and the urgent international issues, including the situation in Syria and Libya.

Putin arrived in Istanbul from the Syrian capital, Damascus, where he held talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad at the center of the gathering of Russian forces in Damascus. He toured the city's streets and visited the Umayyad Mosque and the Marian Cathedral.
