The Canadian Defense Chief Gen. Jonathan Vance said on Tuesday that some of the 500 Canadian soldiers deployed in Iraq would be temporarily transferred to Kuwait for security reasons due to fears of a possible response there after the killing of a senior Iranian military commander in a US strike in Iraq.

Vance said in a message to the military members’ families on Twitter, “In the coming days, as a result of the planning of the Coalition and NATO, some of our personnel will be temporarily moved from Iraq to Kuwait.”

He added, “we are doing so to ensure their safety and security.”

On Tuesday, Germany also announced that it had decided to withdraw part of its forces stationed in Iraq.
