Al-Raqqa ignited Newroz troch after years of absence

Thousands of people from the city of al-Raqqa, al-Tabqa and Deir ez-Zor have been flocking since early morning towards northern countryside of al-Raqqa to celebrate for the first time after years Newroz Eid, where the celebration's square was decorated with pictures of martyrs, flags of the Syrian Democratic Forces and flags of civil institutions in al-Raqqa.

The last Newroz celebrated by the people of al-Raqqa was in 2011, and the celebrations were prevented during the domination of the mercenary gangs on al-Raqqa city.

Al-Raqqa city was liberated by SDF on October 20, 2017 to announce the end of the worst era in the history of the region.

In the center of the square, slogans of "In the Spirit of Free Women, We Congratulate Newroz," "Newroz Torch Lights the Path of Freedom." "Newroz is Eid of Spring and the Struggle against Injustice and Oppression," were hung.

After the Newroz torch was lit by the martyrs' mothers, the participants hold a minute of silence, several words will be delivered on behalf of al-Raqqa Civil Council by the co-chair of the Culture and Art Committee Hassen Mustafa, on behalf of the Autonomous Administration of North and East of Syria by Hassen al-Mushref, on behalf of the martyrs' families by Shamsa Feyyad al-Saleh.
