DAA of Afrin canton commemorates Qamishlo Uprising's anniversary

The DAA of Afrin Region issued a statement on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Qamishlo Uprising, in Berxwedan camp in al-Shahba, in the presence of the heads and deputies of bodies and members of civil institutions.

The statement was read by Vice-President of the Executive Council, Esrafil Mustafa, in Arabic, and in the Kurdish language by the head of the Women's Body, Zalloukh Rashid.

The text of the statement:

After the Baath party took power in Syria, it practiced racist policies against the Kurds from the unfair statistics process which led to the deprivation of hundreds of thousands of Kurds from the Syrian nationality, where they became strangers in their homeland and through the Arab Belt project which led to the establishment of Arab villages along the borders of al-Jazeera region and the removal of large areas of the agricultural land from the hands of the original owners and ownership of the displaced people and change the names of Kurdish villages and deprive the Kurds of the most basic cultural rights.

This racist policy, which is fed by the authoritarian regimes, continued to reach direct and public aggression against our people in Qamishlo, exploiting a mass gathering on the occasion of the sport, which led to the fall of dozens of martyrs and the wounded and the arbitrary arrest of thousands of citizens.

In a related context, the Syrian Revolutionary Youth Movement presented a TV show about the Qamishlo uprising in Serdem refugee camp in the village of Tal Sewsin, which was attended by dozens of young people.
