Stephen Cook, an expert on Arab and Turkish politics, as well as US and Middle East policy, and Matty Ene Enrico's fellow Middle East and Africa studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, wondered during an article in the US magazine "Can Erdogan live up to his apparent commitments?

"It is not at all clear that he will do so, not because Turkey is not capable, although the United States and Turkey seem to have corrected their differences, but their interests," Turkey "in Syria do not really correspond."

In the view of the political expert that the withdrawal of the United States from Syria will effectively end its relationship with SDF, which is the backbone of the International Alliance against IS in Syria.

He notes that Erdogan promised Trump earlier that Turkey would undertake its duty for elimination IS after the US withdrawal from Syria. "But it is not clear that he can fulfill his commitment as the interests of two "NATO" allies in Syria do not really agree," he said.

According to Cook, "there are those within the US administration who believe that by abandoning of SDF and agreeing to sell Patriot missiles to Turkey, the United States will pull Turkey back into the orbit of Washington."

"What has happened recently about the US-Turkish relationship may in turn make Erdogan a willing partner in containing Iran," Cook said.

But Cook said: "Ankara does not see Iran as a threat, and the Turkish government has good economic relations with Iran."

"What makes anyone think that leaving the United States for Syria will push the Turks into a coup against Iran is unrealistic," he said.

"With Turkish media pumping on what experts call" Kurdish phobia, "there is no evidence that Turkey will actually to fight against IS," said political expert Stephen Cook.

The expert concluded that the Turkish government at best was chilly about joining to fight against IS, when Obama administration began to look for allies against IS in the summer of 2014, the Turks said the best way to solve the problem was to change the regime in Damascus.
