From under destruction double efforts to create conscious generation

On 22 September, the Union of the Intellectuals of the Afrin canton has opened a library called Sardam Library, which is located in Sardam camp. The opening of the library was not easy. It took time to prepare books and collect books from destroyed houses under rubble and destruction. Three months on a trip that included all the liberated villages in al-Shahba canton.

The member of the Union of Intelledctuals and Library supervisor Avista Ibrahim said :"By opening this library we wanted to prove to  the world we, the people of  Afrin, we love the life and deserve it and we love knowledge and science, We have strived to collect books since 3 months from under the ashes of the destruction and war ."

The purpose  to open the Library of the Age is to change the idea of displacement, due to most of the refugees' ideas related by waiting provide aid from global bodies, in al-Shahba Union of intellectuals want to create a generation conscious and educated through this library when a person borrow a book from the library,  discussion is happening between the supervisor of the library about what is the goal of the book and its usefulness, and so the debate is going on between them and they exchange ideas and knowledge.

There are daily visits to the library by the parents for the borrowing of books in the middle of 6 books are borrowed daily and the number of books borrowed since the opening of the camp about 350 books.

As for the category that reads the books, they are different, seeing 8-year-olds borrowing books even people who have reached at age of 60.

All of the 3,000 books in the library are borrowed as political, economic, philosophical, sociological, as well as novels, stories, dictionaries and dictionaries in Kurdish, Arabic and English.

The reader, Orivan Manan, who always frequents the library, said that she did not like reading one day before the opening of the camp "I did not want to read books, so I never read a book, but at the opening of Sardam library, I said to myself to go to it and bring myself a book that I might be able to benefit  of it," she said. I have a passion for writing poems. At first I had difficulties sitting in front of the book but over time I learned to read and became a frequent visitor to the library to borrow books. I invite all members of the community to go to the library to read books for self-education and building of the bright future ."
