Demonstrations in Spain, Turkish authorities used tear gas

Dozens of thousands of demonstrators marched through the European cities to revive the World Day of Combating Violence against Women, while the Turkish authorities had blocked demonstrations in Istanbul using tear gas in front of the demonstrators.

In conjunction with the World Day of Combating Violence against Women, many demonstrations went out on a demonstration on Sunday, while Turkey had blocked the demonstrations in Istanbul using tear gas.

The US Voice agency reported that many anti-violence demonstrations have taken place in many European cities.

Where the demonstrators marched on Sunday across the European cities to denounce violence against women, and in this regard, dozens of thousands demonstrated in Spain.

In Turkey, hundreds of women gathered in Istanbul's Tounel roundabout to demonstrate on the city's main Istiklal Street. The police set up a checkpoint and prevented the demonstrators from walking, saying, "Their demonstrations are not allowed," amid the firing of several tear gas shells to distance the demonstrators.

The Turkish authorities have blocked demonstrations and mass protests since 2013 after demonstrations took place against the APK Government and after the declaration of a two-year state of emergency declared after the failed coup d'état attempt in 2016.

On the other hand, activists in more than 40 cities and towns in Spain came out to commemorate the World Day of Combating Violence against Women.

Dozens of thousands of demonstrators in the Spanish capital of Madrid joined a group of women chanting, "No more victims, we want freedom."

Spain is training more than 600 judges specialized at sexual violence and preparing to reform the sexual crimes' laws in the country after the wrath at recent courts' decisions.

Official figures show that 44 women were killed this year in Spain by their current or former partners.

According to statistics from the human rights organization, violence against women is widespread in Turkey, where an online database called the "memorial" reported that at least 337 women were killed by violence in 2018.

"There is nothing that can justify violence against women. My mother taught me that, I taught that my children," the President of the European Parliament Antonio Taghani said, criticizing violence against women.
