Manbij Women: If women liberated, Society will be liberated

The women in the city of Manbij explained that violence has been practiced against women for a long time to eliminate their freedom, limit their thinking and suppress their will, stressing that the emancipation of women today means the liberation of the whole society.

The women's talk coincided with the World Day of Combating Violence against Women (25 November) which is considered to be of great significance in the world and a motivation for women to wage a more vigorous struggle to end violence against women and support efforts to restore their freedom.

A few days before the 25th of November, several women have organized activities in the cities of north and east Syria, most of which focused on defining the concept of violence against women, the factors leading to its spread, the ways of reducing it and the form of the society in which women are free and play their role.

Women became more aware

"The phenomenon of violence against women has become a phenomenon that is exacerbated in the society, practiced by the ruling regimes through outdated laws, and stems from an old mentality. This violence has been existed since immemorial time and its goal is to eliminate women's thought and freedom and suppress their will," says the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in Manbij, Nazifa Khalo."

Nazifa stressed the need to reduce violence against women and eliminate its negative effects among the society through holding awareness-raising seminars and lectures.

She hoped that the phenomenon of violence against women would be eliminated and replaced by awareness within the society.

Women must be more aware

For her part, the spokeswoman of the Women's Council in Manbij Hana Sharif said that the violence against women has existed since five thousand years, stressing the need to educate women more by providing their ideology to be able to address all forms of violence against them.

In a related context, a member of the Genealogy Studies Centers said that they are seeking to introduce the concept of violence and the factors that lead to its spread through lectures, seminars and distribution of publications.

"If a woman is liberated, then the society will become more conscious and free," she said.
