40 People killed in Kabul

A suicide bomber  blew himself up at a celebration of the Prophet's birth in the Afghan capital Kabul and at least 40 people were killed, according to officials in the government.

Najib Danesh, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said more than 70 others were injured in the attack.

Danesh said the suicide bomber "blew himself up in a celebration hall where Islamic scholars were gathering to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Mohammed."

No one has issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.
