Women of north, east Syria took important steps to limit violence

The 25th of November marks the International Day Combating Violence against Women which was announced as a result of the assassination of the sisters Mirabal. To date, women are still subjected to various kinds of violence, whether physical, psychological or verbal, but in the north and east of Syria, the situation is different. After the revolution of women in Rojava, many institutions and roles have been opened to solve women's problems. Women are also commanders on the front lines and administrators in the institutions.

In this regard, members of the institutions and parties in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo noted that women in North and East Syria have been able to take important steps on the path of freedom and reduce the violence against themselves.

Mayassa Taji, the administrator in the Women's Office of the Syrian Democratic Council - Aleppo Branch who is a Turkmen woman said, "As a Turkmen woman and after the revolution of Rojava and I got familiar with Abdullah Ocalan's thought, I was deeply influenced by the fact that Ocalan's thought does not differentiate between the people and calls for women's freedom. Ocalan is the only leader who has fought for the emancipation of women."

"During the women's revolution in Rojava, women were able to take important steps to reduce the violence against themselves. Many women's institutions were opened and women have taken major role, such as leading the fronts and the presidency of institutions."

Women faced displacements by mercenaries and dictatorial regimes

In her role, the deputy of the Future Syria Party's head of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, Marwa Konili confirmed that the Syrian women have severely suffered during the war. Their families were divided and they faced severe displacements at the hands of the mercenaries and the dictatorial regimes as women have been forced to dress black veil, deprived of their rights and sold in the markets. Are women sold in this century?"

Marwa added, "If we want to know the extent of the progress and development of the society, we must consider the status of women in that society; if they enjoy all their rights, we can say that it is advanced. In Rojava revolution, women were able to overcome the crisis with their social and cultural awareness and they demonstrated their ability to take up arms and stand against these violations."

Marwa Konili, the deputy of the Future Syria Party's head, sent a message to all women to develop themselves against all forms of slavery and violence and stand in line with the women struggling.
