Minors' marriage is disaster for society

The Women's Union in coordination with the Center for the Women Science Studies organized a lecture on the phenomenon of underage marriage on 25 November, the World Day against Violence against Women. The lecture was organized at Zeidan al-Henayzal School on the Aleppo Road, attended by members of the Union of Young Women and members of the Center for Women Science Studies and dozens of female students.

During the lecture, the member of the Center for Women Science Studies Sadiqa Khelo said, "The marriage of minors is an obsolete phenomenon and can be described as a disaster because of its negative effects on the society as a whole."

Sadiqa said that as a result of the war in Syria, families have been marrying young women who were still minors, and the marriage of minors have spread due to ignorance and poverty.

"Early marriage leads to major deformities in the women's body, since the young women's body does not bear to have children in addition to the psychological damage that women face," she said during the lecture.

At the end of the lecture, Sadiqa urged to work to reduce the phenomenon of marriage of minors, and to work to raise the awareness of the the parents about the damage caused by the early marriage.
