Mesopotamia Academy aims to build a generation replete with knowledge

Mesopotamia Academy of Sociology aims to build a generation of intellectual, political and social knowledge capable of promoting society at all levels. Through a teaching staff with high scientific qualifications and expertise, and specialists in the affairs of sociology and history.

There have been some changes the academic system witnessed since its establishment in 2013, where the duration of one course was 9 months, and after changes in the rules of procedure of the Academy which extended the training course for 14 months.

Multi-stage system

In the first stage students will receive 15-day courses on the academic system, including lectures on the importance of training, including the spirit of friendship, criticism and self-criticism, patriotism, sociology, democratic nation.

And in the second stage, intellectual lectures for 3 months, focusing on the history of Kurdistan, the principles and foundations of the democratic nation, sociology, geology, the history of the Middle East, the style of the truth and English lessons.

After about 3 months and 15 days, the students move to the third stage, the specialization stage. It consists of two sections of sociology and history of 4 months. The lectures of the two sections revolve around the history of authority, history of thought, sociology, politics, research and reading.

After completing the training course, the student's work will be assessed according to his participation in the training and then go to work in institutions of Democratic Autonomous Administration management within the fields of journalism, finance and the education authority.

Since its opening, the academy has opened six courses that included hundreds of students. The seventh course began in mid-October, with dozens of students joining and now receiving a course on the Kurdish language.

Studying books and discussing contents

Gulna Khalil is a trainee at the Mesopotamia Academy of al-Hasakah. She explained that the academy is a place for human development in terms of thinking and intellectual.

She said ,"we develop ourselves intellectually by reading historical and social books and after reading them, we debate the content of those books."

Dylan Hassan is a young woman from the Euphrates region who has been trained in the Mesopotamia Academy to develop her scientific knowledge said, "Training within the Academy is of great importance in terms of increasing knowledge and developing the individual's intellectual, social and historical capabilities."

The administrator at Mesopotamia Academy Miran Hassan showed that women played a major role in the academy and said, "We aim to strengthen the intellectual and historical character of women, as they have been marginalized in the past and try to create a mental revolution in the field of women's freedom."

Different system from the other academies system

The administrator of Mesopotamia Academy, Dushir Mohammed, pointed out to some differences between the academic system in comparison to academic systems in the nationalistic and capitalist countries. The academies of capitalist and national countries, for example the Syrian regime, follow in its educational system to read, and memorize only, so it cannot be called academies."

In this case, the student does not distinguish whether everything he reads is true, correct or not, and the student remains confined to one mold, and for our academy, the student will not come out of here, and to be superior and able to strengthen his character."

Mohammed pointed out that there is no system of exams within the academy, but the students' work is evaluated, in addition to discussing research and studies prepared by the students as a graduation project.

Commenting on how to evaluate the students, Mohammed said, "The administrators and teachers meet together to assess the work of the students and how to join the training within the academy, and the development of their science and personality, in addition to evaluating the research and studies they provide after the completion of training within the academy."

As for admission requirements within the academy, the administration requires those wishing to join the academy to be within the ages of 18 and 35, in addition to attending the school for 11 years.
