With their fingers, they preserve heritage from extinction

A small room only with a few meters in which the two sisters, Siti and Fatima Ibrahim, who are from the village of Ker Ziro in Kojrat area, have maintained the Kurdish heritage such as the hand-made carpet industry which has become less demanded where it requires more focused and laborious.

Where the sisters inherited the profession from their mother, and through this profession, the two sisters provide their livelihood as well as their contribution to preserving the Kurdish heritage and culture from decaying.

The Kurdish heritage is protected from extinction by the efforts of Koçeret women

The area of ​​Koçeret, especially the women of the area are specialized to preserve the Kurdish dress and Kurdish heritage, and one of the ways in which women preserve the heritage is the profession of carpet industry in spite of the development of equipment in the carpet industry because it requires time and effort.

Siti Ibrhim is a woman who has been in the carpet industry for 20 years and managed to preserve what she has inherited from her mother. She said in this regard "I learned how to make carpets and hand engravings from a very young age. Although it is a profession that requires effort and time, I am still preserving it with my sister."

They make shapes and engravings with special aesthetic features

Siti pointed out that the demand for the quality of hand-made carpets is good although it has become very rare and high quality compared to industrial carpets. The people consider them valuable because they are crafted with high accuracy and characterized by special forms and engravings.

The connection with culture and folklore made them creative in the profession

Siti expressed her pride in her profession because she managed to preserve her heritage. Although it was hard work, but her association with her culture and the area's folklore made her to maintain this valuable profession.

She added, "There is no work without effort and fatigue, but this work takes twice as much time and requires skill, patience and endurance. Women have these qualities so we see that women are considered in these professions that need precision and concentration, and in this work, we preserve the heritage from extinction and we are training the young women of the villages of Koçeret the profession."
