EU to impose "chemical" sanctions on Russia

At a meeting today in Luxembourg, the Council of the European Union intends to ratify a new regime of punishment against physical and legal entities responsible for the use and spread of chemical weapons. The new sanctions were proposed by the United Kingdom and France following the events in Syria and in Salisbury, which Russia is responsible for.

According to a report by the Ukrainian uawire website, the drafting of new restrictions began at the EU summit at the end of July, which was held immediately after the special session of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Member States of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) have been given the right to identify parties responsible for chemical attacks.

The new mechanism allows for sanctions on entities that have participated in the development and use of chemical weapons, regardless of the country to which they belong, a source in the EU legislative bodies told RIA Novosti.

According to the Telegraph, heads of intelligence agencies and politicians in countries that the EU believes are responsible for the use of chemical weapons will be banned from entering the European Union and freezing their accounts.

In today's meeting in Luxembourg, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt is also expected to raise the issue of sanctions for cyber-attacks that London believes Russia possesses. The initiative is supported by the Netherlands, France, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania.

The EU has already imposed a set of sanctions on Russia in March 2014 at the EU special summit and the EU decided to take "measures to put pressure on Russia" with regard to its actions in the Crimea and the deterioration of the situation in eastern Ukraine, and the list now contains more than 150 names.

The entities under the constraints are Russian government officials and officials of the presidential administration, members of the Russian Federal Parliament, military officials and law enforcement structures, as well as other Russian politicians and businessmen, all of whom are banned from entering the European Union and any property belonging to them ,the European banks will freeze them when discovered.

The sanctions imposed on a number of sectors of the Russian economy in two stages - between  July 1-and  August 1-2014. The export of arms from Russia, or to supply Russia with arms, dual-use goods or innovative technologies of the oil industry, Russian.

In addition, the Crimea sanctions were imposed in July 2014, the EU imposed sanctions on the import of goods to Crimea without Ukrainian license, and on the supply of goods and technologies to Crimean companies in the transport, communications and energy sectors (including mining and processing of mineral resources ). The EU also prohibits issuing visas to holders of Russian passports acquired in the Crimea. European cruise ships are not allowed to enter Crimea ports, and aircraft are not allowed to land at the peninsula's airports, the sanctions apply to 20 Russian companies.
