Farmers rent their cotton crop for livestock owners

The incidence of cotton in al-Raqqa and its countryside caused by worm was estimated to have been reduced by an estimated 80% due to the lack of effective medicines to eradicate insect pests, this has forced the farmers to rent the crop to livestock owners for grazing.

The owners of cotton in al-Raqqa and its countryside areas have started to rent the cotton crop of the livestock owners after the season was damaged due to the worm's infection.

The cost of one acres of cotton this year is estimated at 40,000 SP, as a result of the number of spraying of pesticides on the crop to eliminate the worm but useless, due to lack of effective drugs capable of killing or stopping the growth of the worm.

The season is rented to livestock owners at 12 thousand SP, this price does not enough in accordance with the cost, so the loss of the farmers is about 28 thousand SP per acres.

Farmer Jasim al- Ayash from al-Hamarat in the eastern countryside of al-Raqqa said: "This year the farmer suffered heavy losses in the cotton season, we appeal to the Agriculture Committee and the Civil Council to provide fertilizers and hybrid seeds, repair irrigation pumps, and support the farmers in al-Raqqa.

The cotton season is one of the most important seasons in al-Raqqa city and the farmer relies on it as a basic season in agriculture for its proportional selling prices.

It is worth mentioning that the cotton season this year has been completely destroyed in North Syria as a result of the worm's infection.
