Merkel, Trump expressed their concern about Idlib's situation

The offices of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the US President Donald Trump said on Monday that they had expressed by telephone their concern on the developments in Syria, especially the humanitarian situation in the region around Idlib.

The White House’s spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement that the two leaders called for an international movement to prevent occurring a humanitarian disaster in Idlib governorate.

Merkel's spokesman Steffen Zeibert said in a statement on Monday evening, "Russia is demanded to act moderately regarding the Syrian government without further escalation."

The two leaders also talked about the situation in Ukraine and Western Balkan countries and trade, while Sanders said they sought to renew efforts to resolve the conflict in East Ukraine.

The Syrian regime continues to mobilize its forces towards Idlib, and the region has been hit by a series of air strikes and exposed to bombardment operations this month, possibly in preparation for a wide offensive attack that would be launched by the regime's forces.

Russia announced that the United States had begun to prepare for launching attacks on the Syrian regime, where the US national security adviser Bolton threatened the regime with heavy blows if chemical weapons would be used in Idlib.

While Turkey, Russia’s ally continues to negotiate with Jabhet al-Nusra terrorists in the meetings of Astana in order to persuade them to change their name and to integrate them into its other mercenary gangs in Idlib to cut off the road to the regime forces, prevent them from launching attacks and to keep their tools and arms in Syria.
