After 4 years, life returned to Tel Barak roaming market

Most of the cities and areas of al-Jazeera region have had popular roaming markets for more than 30 years, these markets are named according to the names of the week days, which are held on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, etc.

Due to reasonable prices of goods, compared with the prices of shops, as well as availability of most materials needed by the people, these markets are remarkably a destination to residents, in regions like  Direk, Qamişhlo and Girkê Legê areas, there are no sections for the sale of sheep, goats and chickens, as for the areas of Tel Barak, al- Hasakah and Serê Kaniyê, the fabrics in the popular markets vary according to the uniforms of the people of the area.

For Tal Barak market, Wednesday market, it is the largest market in al-Jazeera region, where all the household supplies are available, including foodstuffs, detergents, household appliances, puppets, textiles and even a section for selling sheep, goats and birds like chicken and pigeons.

However, the market in the area of ​​Tel Barak stopped for several years since late 2012 to the beginning of 2017, that is during the occupation of IS mercenaries and Jabhit al-Nusra of the area, where they prevented the people from setting up the market permanently, the market returned to its splendor after the liberation from IS mercenaries by the People and Women Protection Units of the Tel Barak in 2016, the market was officially opened in mid-2017, after the People's Municipality in the district allocated a place north of the district to establish the market.

The market witnessed a remarkable development after the local administration and township elections held by the Democratic Federalism of North Syria in October 2017. The municipal administration in the district expanded the market place and allocated places for the sellers.

The people of the district consider that the market has become a heritage of the people of the area, so even those who do not need something have come to the market to maintain it and its elegance.
