Baghoz: Kurds will determine balances in Syria

The political and specialist in the Middle East’s affairs Mustafa Baghoz talked with Hawar news agency (ANHA) on the latest developments in the areas of northern Syria, and Baghoz said that Turkey's policy in northern Syria had failed to fulfill its Ottoman ambitions, but continued to pass its wrong policies.

Baghoz referred to the strained relations between America and Turkey on the issue of the US pastor Brunson, and noted that Brunson is important for Turkey. He is an evangelist and has been working in the missionary in Turkey for 20 years in addition to intelligence works. He also noted that Brunson plays an important role in the evangelical movement in the Middle East so he is not considered an ordinary person for the American foreign policy. Baghoz said that the American Intelligences agency CIA is carrying out many intelligence activities through evangelicals. This movement is not just a religious movement. It has a role in appointing and planning the American foreign policy. Brunson is important for the American intelligence. Baghoz also said that Turkey was seeking to obstruct the US strategy in Syria, but if the current administration in Rojava would be disappeared, that would undermine the US strategy in the Middle East so that the US would not allow Ankara to hold any Turkish political or military interference in Rojava.

Baghoz said, "Turkey has had nothing to do in Syria. Turkey will soon be demanded to get out of al-Bab and Afrin. Putin's special envoy said, “Russia's patience has been implemented, the time to fight Jabhet al-Nusra and exit them from Idlib has come; otherwise, Russia and al-Assad's forces will start the attack. Ankara seems not to have listened to these calls so that Idlib is going to witness a major battle in the coming days."

The battle in Idlib

By the end of August, the Russian-Syrian and also Iranian forces will begin the battle of Idlib. There are tens of thousands of jihadists in Idlib and they will be first called on to surrender. If they do not surrender, they will be sent to al-Bab through Afrin or they may be directed towards Turkey. If the two scenarios do not occur, Idlib will witness a major war. The current situation in Idlib will not continue as it is."

As for the situation in Afrin, Idlib and Jarablus, Baghoz said, "The battle of Idlib will affect the balances in Afrin and al-Bab. The goal here is to transfer the jihadists from there to al-Bab through Afrin, and Russia does not oppose this. They seek to attack SDF through al-Bab, and if they would do this, this means that they are seeking to attack the American and French presence and create chaos in the area. Russia says to the jihadist groups, take Manbij and settle there permanently. The aim of the Russian foreign minister's visit to Turkey concerns the issue of the military operation in Idlib. Turkey was asked to hand over Afrin to the forces of the regime and withdraw its forces from Afrin.”

The Kurds' role in the Syrian balances

Mustafa Baghoz pointed out that both Russia and America will remain in Syria, and will not withdraw from Syria even after the elimination of IS, adding, "The most likely is that the new constitution prepared by America and Russia will include the establishment of two federal areas. During the meeting held between Putin and Trump, the borders to these areas have been put. The United States will protect its military bases in Rojava; in other words, the Kurds will determine the balances in Syria, and yet the situation in the Middle East is open to possibilities and surprises as there is nothing absolute.”
