Turks pay price of their president’s intransigence, arrogance

In the early hours of Wednesday, the exchange rate of the Turkish lira reached 6.54 against the dollar after having improved slightly on Tuesday and reached the level of 6.33.

The dispute with Washington caused the lira to record lows as the Turkish currency lost more than 40 % of its value against the dollar this year, Erdogan said on Tuesday that Turkey would boycott the US electronic products as the dispute would be escalated.

The US government said on Tuesday that it was not responsible for Turkey's economic troubles, saying that it is exceeding the scope of recent sanctions. "The economic troubles did not start when we imposed those sanctions on two individuals in August this year," the spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry, Heather Noiret said.

Economists agree that what happens in Turkey goes far beyond the United States and the US recent policies in addition to imposing different policies and mechanisms.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Nuerte and the White House’s spokeswoman Sarah Sanders raised the issue of the US pastor's arrest. Sanders said that the US president was still frustrated that Brunson and other US citizens and employees of diplomatic institutions had not been released. "We will continue to call on Turkey to do the right thing and release them," she stated to the journalists at the White House.

Turkey is witnessing an economic war by international forces which has caused the decline in the exchange rate of the lira and the rise in inflation rates in the country.
