According to specialists in geology that about 30 meters under the area of the Serê Kaniyê has become almost empty, due to severe shortage of groundwater, after the large number of wells dug by the Turkish occupation authorities from the side of Serê Kaniyê "Sarakhti" which led to the formation of cavities in the abdomen after the lack of water.

Serê Kaniyê district related to al-Hasakah has six towns: Mabrouka, Tal Halaf, Madan, Manajir, Safh and Alok. It was named " Serê Kaniyê " or "Ras al Ain", since once, 360 springs flowed from there. Serê Kaniyê is famous for the presence of the civilization of Tel Halaf, which witnessed the dawn of humanity, and it is considered a rich ground water in Kurdistan.

Until 2002, the springs fed the area with water and were a source of water for the Khabur River, because of climate change and the policies of the Turkish occupation state, all the springs dried up.

According to the information obtained by our agency of engineers, the aquifer stretches from the town of Safh to the town of Alok spanning over 18 km, and from the city of Serê Kaniyê to the Turkish border over 15 km. From the time of the Syrian regime until now, 2814 water wells have been drilled in the area.

One of the factors affecting the underground water in Serê Kaniyê is the policies of the Turkish occupation state, because the Turkish side is higher than Rojava in terms of geography. The water runs from top to bottom, which means that the water on the Turkish side comes to Rojava.

According to the information obtained from the municipality of the people in Serê Kaniyê, the Turkish occupation state dug 4,000 sea wells on the border at Serê Kaniyê working day and night. The Turkish occupation also closed the way to the springs that come to Serê Kaniyê through the channels and wells which causes a significant shortage of groundwater. Before 2002, when the villagers dug the wells, the water came out after digging several meters, but now digs at least 27 meters, which means that the groundwater has been reduced to at least 27 meters.

Engineers said that the soil under the city of Serê Kaniyê was calcareous soil, meaning that in the event of water shortage, the land witnesses collapses. Therefore, the land was submerged in Serê Kaniyê, especially in the winter, especially in those places where the springs came out.

Director of the Technical Department in the municipality of Serê Kaniyê Abdul Aziz Oso reported on the matter and said that the land of the Zarkan area was first desecrated in 2005. "The second time it happened in the city of Serê Kaniyê in 2007 and it is still going on. It is clear to us then that the water is 22 meters in diameter, and it is dangerous that we do not know in which area there is a shortage, when the rain breaks the ground and this leads to the breakage of the sewage channels, the rain water mixes with the sewage and mixes with the groundwater. The ground collapsed under a water tank belonging to the municipality, the child of the tank driver got stuck under the tank and lost his life. "

Oso warned parents to take permission before building houses and to review the concerned institutions, and continued, " the ground is already collapsing under the weight of the existing load, what if it increased? He wondered?

According to the information obtained from the Well Foundation in Serê Kaniyê, it is prohibited to dig sea wells in order to secure drinking water, it is possible to drill wells provided that they do not reach the sea level and that every three houses dig one well.
