The interior minister told reporters, "Unfortunately, about 30 people have been killed, many others are in critical condition,"

Many Italians were injured on Tuesday when a large section of a highway bridge collapsed in Genoa city, which Italian Transportation Minister Danilo Toninelli described as "a terrible tragedy."

Rescuers searched through the rubble after the bridge collapsed and spoke of "dozens of victims." Pictures from the site showed debris falling over a railroad, cars and trucks were trapped among the rubble, and adjacent buildings were damaged.

Television images in the fog showed images of Morandi bridge, much of which collapsed at noon. Italian media reported the collapse of 200 meters from the bridge in an industrial area in western Genoa.
