Syriac village emptied of people by Turkish violations

Mula Abbas village is located 10 kilometers north of Tirbê Spiyê district. It is 1 km away from the border between Rojava and Bakur Kurdistan (northern Kurdistan). It was inhabited by 66 Syriac families and was emptied of most of its population after the Peoples Revolution began on July 19 as a result of the practices, violations and harassment of the Turkish occupation army to the village and the villages along the border of Rojava with Bakur.

The violations of the Turkish occupation army against the people of the area began over the past seven years. It used to target the border villages with Rojava on a daily basis in addition to preventing the farmers from plowing and cultivating their agricultural lands, forcing the villagers to build concrete walls in front of their houses to protect themselves from the frequent violations of the army. The Turkish occupation violations have increased in the past two years amid international and regional silence, and some of residents left their villages.

Mula Abbas is one of these villages, as only 5 families have stayed as a result of the frequent Turkish violations, while the other 61 families have deported to Tirbê Spiyê district and Qamishlo city and others have migrated outside Rojava to the European countries.

The old man Issa Qelaqius who is from Mula Abbas, of Syriac origins and 86 years old explained that the village has crowded with people since several years. He pointed out that there are only 5 families in the village now.

Issa Qelaqius said," We lived in the village with close collaborators, we secured our livelihood from our agricultural crops, livestock, and before the artificial borders that were put between Rojava and Bakur Kurdistan, the villagers used to take their livestock to Bakur Kurdistan in Seroj area."

Issa Qelaqius noted that the arbitrary practices of the Turkish state and after putting the borders between Rojava and Bakur Kurdistan did not stop against the villagers, and gradually prevented the villagers from approaching the border. In the past years, the Turkish army prevented the villagers from cultivating their lands located on the border.

Issa Qelaqius explained that the Turkish occupation has tightened the siege more and more especially in the past five years, and it prevented the people from plowing and planting their lands and orchards. It also targeted anyone who was trying to plow or cultivate their lands near the border with bullets, forcing most of them to migrate from the village.

Turkey targets genuine peoples

Issa Qelaqius explained that Turkey targets the genuine peoples in the area and targets all who demand the freedom of oppressed peoples. In this context, Issa Qelaqius referred to the international conspiracy that reached the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and said, "The ideology and philosophy of the leader Abdullah Ocalan was in line with the aspirations of the peoples of the area."

Issa Qelaqius said, "I do not know why countries like America and the European countries support the Turkish fascist government. How the international organizations and human rights organizations keep silence toward the Turkish violations and massacres against the peoples of the area? Do not they realize that Turkey is the cause of the problems in the whole area?!"
