Iran has threatened that it will respond with a similar countermeasure if the United States tries to prevent its oil exports, according to a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Spokesman Behram Qasimi said "If America wants to take serious action on this path, it will certainly face a counter-action by Iran."

He described the American proposals on preventing the export of Iranian oil as "mere bragging," adding that "previous analyzes indicate that America and with the presence of Security Council resolutions could not do so."

US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rohani exchanged hostile statements this week.

Rohani warned Trump's administration against taking a policy hostile to his country because the war between the two countries would be "the mother of wars."
