Pompeo: Washington to repel Iranian behavior, Russia broke agreement in South Syria

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed in an exclusive interview with Sky News Arabia that the US administration is committed to addressing the evil Iranian behavior, warning the regime that its malicious practices would cost it greatly.

He stressed that his country is working to reduce Tehran militias in Yemen, Iraq and Lebanon, in addition to Syria.

Pompeo revealed the American scenario to address the Iranian threats and the threat to disrupt the movement of oil navigation in the area and close Hormuz Strait after the re-imposition of sanctions against Iran by US.

Pompeo added, "With regard to these threats, the world must realize that the United States is committed to maintaining sea lanes and oil flow to all over the world. This is the commitment of the United States for decades, and we will continue to do so."

On the Syrian issue, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Russia broke the agreement with his country on the Syrian south as it has launched a campaign with the Syrian regime recently.

Pompeo made it clear, "We had an agreement with the Russians that they would not advance towards the south as there is a de-escalation zone, but the Russians violated it clearly."

Pompeo added, "We are working with all concerned parties to urge the Russians, Syrians and Iranians to fulfill their political commitments," stressing the need to continue the efforts to advance the political process to resolve the Syrian conflict.

The US President Donald Trump is expected to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Helsinki a few days later to focus on the Syrian issue and the Iranian file.
