Gelewêj… all-female bakery filled with rural scent

In Hilwa village 7 km west of Tirbê Sipî, Gelewêj (the star of the morning; Mars), an all-female bakery where 11 women in cooperation with the Women’s Economy in the district will work in, the project aims to retrieve the old culture of women in making bread which will be a source of income for some families in addition to supplying the western villages in the district with bread.

Munifa Saied, an administrator in the Women’s Economy said in an interview with ANHA “Women have faced many a difficulty in the domain of economy, where some considered women going out and participating in the agriculture, industry and trade an impossibility; women, however proved that they are capable of successfully managing the society like home.”

To talk about the project of Gelewêj bakery, Munifa pointed out that the project depends on the autonomous efforts of women in all works within the bakery and today the project is ready.” 

According to Munifa, the bakery will provide bread for four villages west of Tirbê Sipî district, within the bakery, Kurdish, Arab, and Syriac women will work together.

Munifa concluded appealing to women who migrated to pay the Syrian north a visit to see the development that took place in the domains of women’s administration of the community after Rojava revolution and implementing the democratic nation principle.
