Despite fasting ... women of al-Raqqa countryside working in the fields

Women in the rural area of Ain Issa belonging to Girê Sipî canton work in agricultural fields, such as cotton and vegetable fields, to provide a daily income that provides them with the necessary needs and help their husbands to secure household expenses.

Despite the month of fasting, however, the workers did not stop working, but continued working in the fields while fasting.

Due to the high temperature of the day, women go to work after Sohour time from 4 am and continue until eleven o'clock.

Every day (five to six hours), the workers receive 500 Syrian pounds, but the wages they receive are not measured by half of exhaust they encounter in the fields, according to them, and a sunstroke sometimes hits some of them.

One of the workers in the fields, Mariam Ibrahim, a resident of the al-Hisha village, located east of Ain Issa district , said in an interview with our agency (ANHA) "After we eat suhour meal at 4 o'clock, we prepare all the women in the village to go to work and the workers are divided into sections, where each group goes in a field.

Meriam added, "At morning hours, work is good and we notice the workers' spirit of work and encouragement, but after 9:00 temperature is rising, which sometimes leads to occasional sunburn, but despite everything we continue to work."

For her part, worker Houria al-Ahmad from the village of Sheikh Hassan in the countryside of Ain Issa said that they are seeking to work to provide income to provide them with their needs and also to help their husbands because of poor financial and living conditions and the lack of employment opportunities other than work in the fields.

Houria al-Ahmad expressed her bitter resentment with the daily wage they receive, which is 500 SY so that every day she works in a field that provides two bundles of bread to her family no more than that.

She called on the concerned parties to look into their situation and provide suitable jobs such as opening workshops for sewing and embroidery for women, or introducing some of the educated women in the fields of employment or other works.

Despite their difficulties, these women continue to work in the fields for the purposes they have set for themselves: helping to support the family and providing food for the children. They do not accept the abandonment of religious duties and at the same time do not give up their homework even if they are forced to do so.
