Summer courses for teachers, opportunity to avoid school year deficiencies

Almost a month after the end of the school year in the cities of the cantons of al-Jazeera region, but the educational process for teachers did not end.

Summer courses to strengthen teachers

As the curriculum changes constantly to ensure the development of these curricula, teachers therefore need continuous training and rehabilitation to keep the curriculum on the one hand and to benefit from the experiences of previous years and avoid mistakes and deficiencies.

In this context, the Education Committee of the Democratic Society in Girkê Legê district area initiated to organize summer courses for the rehabilitation and strengthening of teachers. The aim of these courses, according to officials, is to avoid errors and deficiencies that appear during the academic year, and to strengthen and improve the efficiency and performance of teachers in various subjects.

The first course, which opened a few days ago, currently has about 30 teachers, with the opening of other courses of hundreds of teachers after Ramadan month. The courses were opened at the Martyr Baaz Institute for Educational Sciences and in coordination with the Institute's administration. The course includes lectures and lessons on teaching methods, competencies, and teaching of new curricula.

The administrator of the Curriculum Management Committee Ihsan Shibli said that through these courses they seek to overcome the mistakes and deficiencies during the school year, he also noted that these courses are an opportunity to determine the levels of the teachers and their classification according to efficiency and competence.

Transition from the method of indoctrination to the method of dialogue and communication between teacher and student

Summer courses also include enhancing the efficiency of teachers in teaching methods, ensuring the transition from teaching to dialogue and communication between teachers and students, according to administrator Haifa Barakat.

"Every school year, new curricula are added to the classrooms," Barakat said. "During the past year, the curriculum for junior high school students has been added, so we have to train qualified teachers who are capable of teaching these curricula, in addition, we seek to break the past methods in teaching to eliminate the method of imparting information and enhance the method of dialogue and direct communication between the teacher and the student, and not  to link the fate of students with the final exams, but depending the level of the student since the first day of the beginning of the school year.

"We are doing our best to make the educational process in Rojava a success, "We have set up the summer courses program three months ago, and the goal is to strengthen teachers, correct mistakes and avoid deficiencies, said Tayseir al-Baz, a lecturer at the Martyr Baz Institute.

Free courses for high school students

The Education Committee of the Democratic Society and the Martyr Baz Institute also organize training courses for high school students. It has opened free courses for students to enable them to compensate for their missed lessons, thus relieving the financial burden on the students' families.
