Working on rehabilitating al-Raqqa's Museum

The museum was almost totally destroyed as a result of the battles that took place in the city, and after the liberation of al-Raqqa by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the civil institutions began to work to restore the city's splendor.

Since the beginning of this month, the Tourism and Antiquities Committee of al-Raqqa Civil Council and with the support of Ro’ya Organization has begun the process of restoring the Archaeological Museum.

The museum has two floors with six galleries as well as a central reception hall. The restoration process includes the two floors and all halls to be restored and reopened to tourists and researchers again.

The restoration process consists of three stages. The first stage is the construction which includes the renovation of the ceilings and walls inside the museum and the galleries. The second stage includes the repair of the doors and windows, and the maintenance of the water and sewage system and the small garden of the museum, the final stage is the processing of the places for displaying the sculptures and paintings.

It is worth mentioning that IS mercenaries, when occupied al-Raqqa city, sabotaged and stole the antiquities existed inside the museum, and used the museum as headquarter to spread the thought of IS mercenaries.
