SWC forum’s participants: workshop came to solve problems of Syrian women

On Monday with the support of United Nations Women's Organization in cooperation with the Syrian Women's Council and in collaboration with Kongra Star and the Joint Ground Organization, a forum and a workshop entitled "Syrian Women's Priorities in North and North-East Syria" were held at al-Sahara complex in Qamishlo city, ANHA agency has met the participating women.

The civil society activist Naz Hami from Qamishlo city spoke about her participation in the forum and pointed out that they participated today as women activists in the forum to hold a workshop to discuss the needs and priorities of women in the north and northeast of Syria, and as a result of these discussions, they reached several conclusions as women faced social, economic, cultural, political and training problems.

"We will transfer these problems to the UN Women's Body to develop future plans and projects and find solutions to them, we have focused more on activating the role of women in the economic and political spheres," she said. "Women are now linked to men's power and male mentality and do not have the right to self-determination. Our aim now is to break these restrictions on women to be decision-makers themselves. "

A member of the Women's Committee of al-Raqqa's Civil Council Khawla Hammoud said that their participation in the forum is a great step for the development of women in al-Raqqa city, where she was subjected to the rule of IS mercenaries’ impact for several years, deprived of all her rights, became marginalized, lacked independent opinion and had no effective role in the society.

The member of the Syriac Union Sabah Shabo said that her attendance today to the workshop is to strengthen the role of women, stating that the women are the most whom suffered during the crisis, where she was subjected to physical and psychological violence and murder, kidnapping and captivity, and also mutilation of the corpses of some women.

"Through this workshop, we will find solutions to the problems which the women have faced. Women should be organized within civil society organizations, empowering them and consolidating the principles of free women in society, enacting laws to protect them from violence and oppression and protecting their rights.

Shabo stressed at the conclusion that the dialogue forum has consolidated relations between women participating from all components and cities of Syria.
