First military regiment formed in al-Raqqa

Having received training for 40 days, the Syrian Democratic Forces have formed the first military regiment in al-Raqqa after its liberation in October under the name Martyr Abed Regiment in a ceremony held in Marouda village east of al-Raqqa.

The ceremony was attended by commanders of the Syrian Democratic Forces, al-Raqqa notables and sheikhs of clans and martyrs’ families, in addition to members of the local councils and internal security forces in al-Raqqa.

The ceremonies began with a military parade performed by the regiment’s fighters, and then the SDF commander Zinarin Kobani delivered a speech saying “We offer this regiment formation to our martyrs whom we are proud of and their sacrifices, we offer this to the leader Abdullah Ocalan.”

Zinarin added “I hope you victory in your struggle, from now on, you will undertake the responsibility of protecting the homeland from any outrageous intervention that threatens the security and safety of north Syria regions.”

Afterwards, the fighters took the military oath and vowed to defend the homeland and maintain the right of women.

Martyr Abed fell in al-Raqqa while repelling a sneaking attempt by Daesh mercenaries.
