Maintenance of 75% of the water systems in al-Raqqa city

After liberating al-Raqqa city from Islamic State's gangs on 17 November, People's Municipality began with 10 members its work till opening of municipality's official center on February 1, 2018 and began its work with every effort to improve the service reality in the city despite lack of capabilities of machineries with its committees " Water, Health, Environment and Gardens and Control."

Al-Raqqa city, during domination of Islamic State's gangs (IS) for 4 years the city, witnessed heavy clashes during liberating operation which caused massive destruction to infrastructure about 60%.as well as its neighborhoods require reconstruction and restoration and damage to sewage and lack of water and electricity networks.

People's Municipality started its work in al-Mashlab neighborhood where earth mounds were removed first and waste from al–Raqqa and then work in all neighborhoods and even its countryside.

During the month of May 2018, People's Municipality has completed many projects and services for the people, including:

75% of the water networks repaired in al-Raqqa

The People's Municipality has been working on the maintenance of all the sewage points and repaired nearly 75% of the water networks, i addition to pumping drinking water within the city to (Bedouin neighborhood, al -Wadi Street, al-Rashed Park area to al-Naim roundabout, al-Qitar street till al-Dariya post."

The municipality has also rehabilitated green facilities and gardens such as al-Rasheed Park, al- Bustan, al-Bayda and al-Bugha Park, in order to remove dry trees inside it and clean the garden and remove earth mounds.

In addition to, the municipality launched a campaign to spray insecticides to fight leishmania in two batches.

Despite lack of capabilities of People's Municipality, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) provided machineries 3 of Bobcat, 2 GPC, and trash compressor.

Promoting service reality and success requires careful planning

Hawar news agency (ANHA) Interviewed with the Co-chair of People's Municipality of al-Raqqa city Ahmed Ibrahim said "at the beginning of the work, the municipality received no support. After several requests were submitted to al-Raqqa Civil Council and appeals support was received from several quarters And unable to meet the needs of the city in full, we come to us several requests to pressure sanitation by the people, which led to the accumulation of requests.

Ahmed pointed out in his speech that the restoration and rehabilitation of  al-Dala roundabout is very important as it symbolizes the civilization of the  area and the completion will be the cultivation of flowers in the roundabout.

In the end, Ahmed Ibrahim said, "We face great difficulties because the large and huge amount of work, and seek to promote the reality of service and the success of the work requires the considered and accurate development of plans."
