On International Day Against Turkish Invasion, thousands march in Derik

In response to a call by a group of academic figures, intellectuals, parties, associations and Kurdish and international civil society organizations, to make 26 May International Day Against Turkish Invasion of Kurdistan. On Saturday the people of Derik in al-Jazeera region with all its components in a mass demonstration to revolt against the policies of demographic change and the occupation of many of Kurdish areas by the Turkish government.

The demonstration was attended by representatives of political parties and tribal dignitaries, as well as thousands of residents of Derik, Koçerat and Berav, in various Kurdish, Arab and Syriac components.

The people gathered in al-Huriya Square and raised pictures of the martyrs and pictures of the leader of the Kurdish people Abdullah Ocalan and banners with slogans denouncing the Turkish occupation of Afrin.

The protestors walked in the main streets in Derik city amid a complete closure of the shops, where the demonstrators chanted slogans saluting Resistance of the Age in Afrin, denouncing the Turkish occupation of Afrin and the demographic change policy carried out by Turkey in agreement with Russia and the Syrian regime and Iran in Afrin.

The demonstrators stopped in the Martyrs' Square in the center of Derik, then the demonstrators stood a minute of silence, and then read a statement on behalf of the Preparatory Committee for the demonstration, which said, "Let us make the 26th of May an International Day Against Turkish Invasion of Afrin canton in the shadow of international silence that is missing all human rights laws and international covenants, the policy of AKP and the Fascist nationalist movement against the Kurdish people and the peoples of Middle East. "

"Russia is a partner in the occupation of Afrin, and the statements of the fascist state to the occupation of Manbij, Kobani and Qamishlo show the extent of the hatred of the policy of genocide against the Kurdish people by the occupation,"

The statement pointed out "Afrin is victorious and will prevail against the terrorists and fascists and that the persistence of this great resistance shown by our people in al-Shahba evidence of their insistence on resistance and walk in the footsteps of the martyrs until the victory and the expulsion of the occupiers and terrorists and mercenaries from Afrin region and North Syria and the return of the people to their villages.

The demonstration stopped at the center of the district where the demonstrators stood a minute of silence, and then the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, Aisha Hasou, said that "the historical resistance of Afrin was an important turning point in the history of Kurdistan and the Middle East against the occupation in all its forms."

"Resistance of the Age revealed the real face of Erdogan and through this resistance and unity of the people will fail the Turkish state, and will not reach its objectives of occupation."

A member of Kongra Star Menifa Hussein, has read a statement on behalf of Kongra Star, "An area is undergoing important developments, especially after Turkey's occupation of Afrin and its transformation of the area's demographics, the looting and kidnapping of the population, massacres against children and women, and the destruction of villages, areas and cities, but the eyes of the international community, remained silent on these violations.

"Turkey is preparing for its elections and is trying with all its might and dictatorships to exclude candidates and oppose its election policy through arbitrary arrests."

"In the name of Kongra Star we will support our people in Kurdistan, who are resisting the Turkish occupation, we will win."

The demonstration ended with slogans that glorify martyrs.
