Importance and strategic position

Bagouz village which had been liberated by Syrian Democratic Forces, has a great importance to IS mercenaries, the village is the main gate to enter Hajin town" the last stronghold of ISIS, east of the Euphrates River. The village is located in the corner of the Euphrates and the Iraqi borders, it is divided into two sections in the Syrian side and the second section is located on the border directly, that is, the Syrian-Iraqi borders divide the village into two parts.

Transform the village into a military zone

At the beginning of the ISIS control over the village, it has transformed the village into a military zone and a gate for the entry and exit of IS mercenaries between Syria and Iraq, the mercenaries at the beginning of its control of the village forcing all its inhabitants to displace, in order to turn the houses of civilians into military headquarters and private homes to receive mercenaries from Iraq, and to prevent the entry of anyone, ISIS has planted the ground sensitive mines in the vicinity of the village.

Al-Jazeera Tempest campaign … ISIS end east of the Euphrates

Syrian Democratic Forces, which resumed al-Jazeera Tempest campaign to liberate the Syrian-Iraqi border and the desert of Deir ez-Zor from ISIS, managed during the 13 days of the clashes to liberate 21 km from the desert of Deir ez-Zor and the Syrian-Iraqi border.

The Syrian Democratic Forces' Special Teams having at the beginning reached to the outskirts of the village, detection and work to clean the mines planted by ISIS mercenaries along the road and cleaning the barriers created by IS mercenaries were carried out.

The process of liberating the village

Syrian Democratic Forces liberated al-Bagouz village on 14 May, in coordination with Iraqi forces, where the forces launched a coordinated and simultaneous attack on the village, after cleaning the road leading to it, which was completely bombarded, Syrian Democratic Forces attacked the Syrian Bagouz village, where the Iraqi army launched an attack on the Iraqi side, where the village witnessed violent clashes between the forces and IS mercenaries, who tried to stay in the village and prevent its liberation, but the forces were able to liberate it completely after hours of violent clashes.

Bagouz and the reasons for the violent clashes

IS mercenaries tried to stay in the city, and used many methods, but the forces were able to liberate it completely, the village is of great importance to mercenaries, where with the liberation of it by the forces, was able to cut the supply of mercenaries from Iraq east of the Euphrates River, the mercenaries were confined to several villages and Hajin town on the eastern bank of the Euphrates in the Syrian territories, the village is also an attack gateway on Hajin town" the last stronghold of ISIS east Syria.

SDF reaches the first goal of the campaign

After the liberation of Bagouz village, Syrian Democratic Forces and the Iraqi army could reach one of the objectives of the campaign, they succeeded in separating IS mercenaries from the Iraqi border on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and south of Deir ez-Zor.
