“Girls of the Sun” is competing to win the Palm d’Or which will be granted on May 19; the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival since 1955.

Eva Husson is one of three female directors participating in the Cannes festival where 21 films are competing to win the Palm d’Or, the other two directors are Lebanese Nadin Labaki and the Italian Alice Rohrwacher.  

The film that tells the fictional story of Yazidi women who held arms to face Daesh after their escape from captivity was shown on Saturday, and also touches upon a battalion of women leading an attack on Daesh.

The film based on IS attack on the Yazidis in Şengal in 2014 when Daesh killed men, kidnapped women and children into slavery.
