Al-Raqqa deprived of electricity for lack of potential

Many of al-Raqqa neighborhoods suffer from the problem of the lack of access to main electricity due to severe damage to the power station in the al-Firousiya area, which feeds these neighborhoods as a result of the bombing and looting by IS mercenaries, and the electricity and telecommunications committees seek to rehabilitate them, but the lack of potential prevent that.

The electricity station, which feeds al-Raqqa city, stopped its working because of IS mercenaries during their control of al-Raqqa to blow up the electricity station in al-Firousiya area, which feeds the entire neighborhoods al-Raqqa city, causing damage to the section which feeds the city's neighborhoods, in addition to the lack of mechanisms and spare parts as a result of robberies and looting by IS mercenaries before they were defeated from al-Raqqa city by Syrian Democratic Forces in the Wrath of Euphrates campaign, which liberated the city on 20 October 2017.

To rehabilitate the station and distribute electricity in al-Raqqa, the Energy and Communications Committee of al-Raqqa's Civil Council began to repair the electrical and terrestrial lines in al-Raqqa's neighborhoods.

In this regard, the Co-chair of Energy and Communication Committee, Sherko Kajo, said "during the last three months, Energy and Communications Committee, with the support of al-Raqqa's Civil Council, have made great efforts to rehabilitate electricity networks on the outskirts of al-Raqqa city, which feed the al-Firousiya station after repairing the lines which feed the western villages of al-Raqqa city, and we were able to deliver electricity to several neighborhoods located on the western outskirts of the city (al-Jazra junction, al-Khatouniya, al-Jazra and al-Hokoumiya), while we could not deliver it to the rest of the neighborhood yet because of the lack of potential.

"We need heavy support of heavy machinery (cranes, tower cranes, large trucks, cables) to work to restore electricity to the entire neighborhoods of al-Raqqa city," he added.
