2,800 diabetes patients in al-Shahba need treatment

Afrin people who are staying in al-Shahba canton suffered from bad conditions such as health and living difficulties, and international organizations do not move till now to help them amid lack of medical points necessary medicines in al-Shahba canton.

People suffering from diabetes have serious consequences, especially in the absence of medicines, where the patient is affected with blindness or kidney failure or amputation of foot.

The diabetes patient Aslan Horik Haider, father of five girls from Aka village belonging to Bulbul district said: "A year and a half my sugar level rose, which led to severe weakness of vision and amputation of my feet, increased pain in my right foot. According to the diagnosis of the doctor for my case he said the beginning of gangrene and must be amputated also.

Administrator of the Kurdish Red Crescent Dr. Ammar Mohammed noted "According to the statistics, there are 2800 cases of diabetes, 1,150 of them are taking insulin daily, and the pills and sugar we have but in limited quantities, so we appeal to the organizations to support us".

For his part, Dr. Specialist Cardiac Internal Abdelkader Hasko said “We are now working in Avrin Hospital in al-Shahba canton which is newly prepared and is not ready till now. We do not have enough equipment. We miss supplies; we suffer from shortages of medicines, especially diabetes and chronic diseases. We appeal to all concerned humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and help."
