Lack of water will recreate truly ISIS scenario

The effects of water receding have been markedly noticeable in Ayied Island or al-Grain Reserve, west of al-Tabqa 10 km on the southern bank of Euphrates Lake, with a geographical area of ​​more than 3 square kilometers and the appearance of plants clearly in the middle of the water and on its banks  which is shrinking almost daily.

During the occupation of al-Tabqa, ISIS mercenaries peptized to turn al-Jazeera into a warehouse for weapons and tunnels, and neglect the trees, the reserve was in dire straits and more than 90 percent of the trees became dry.

"Most of the trees and medicinal plants in the reserve area and forest sites have been severely degraded due to the lack of irrigation and the low humidity in the sites," said Hamidi al-Abdullah, the Co-chair of Agriculture Directorate.

Al-Abed warned the continuation of this "blatant cut of water by Turkish state which will lead to the emergence of a drought that will affect the agricultural wealth existing in the area through the short length of plants and small size and the large impact on the soil as the drought will increase the rate of disintegration of the soil, which contributes to a big drifting operations."

"Currently, the site needs intensive irrigation to rectify this crisis," he said.
