Shylan Shaker: Şengal witnessing great progress, Başûr people should benefit of elections

In an interview Hawar news agency held with the Co-chair of Kurdistan Freedom Movement and a member of Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) Shylan Shaker during their visit to Şengal, to talk about Şengal situation at this stage, and the Turkish threats to attack Şengal and build bases in Başûr Kurdistan, and in the dialogue Shylan talked about the elections of the Iraqi parliament that will be held and how the people of Başûr benefit from and achieve the gains.

The interview is as follows:

You visited Şengal areas and met with several personalities, how can you describe the current situation of Şengal?

After the KNK members met in Başûr Kurdistan, a decision was made to visit Şengal area after being fully liberated from ISIS to take a look at the new democratic system that the people of Şengal are currently establishing in conjunction with Turkish threats that are trying to conclude agreements with some Kurdish parties to attack Şengal, so it is necessary to visit Şengal areas in solidarity with Şengal and its people, the situation of Şengal can be described in a number of sentences, the people who were subjected to genocide and massacres did not tire of reorganizing themselves, establishing their institutions and restoring power by forming their own military forces.

As for the Turkish threats to Şengal areas, we met several personalities and institutions and even the people of Şengal assured us that Turkey would not be able to create a state of fear among them, as what we saw there, we can say that Şengal is not the old Şengal which have been targeted with massacres several times.

The people of Şengal are still wondering that despite the presence of hundreds and even thousands of Peshmerga of Kurdistan region and Iraqi army were unable to protect Şengal but a small group of People Defense Forces (HPG) was able to protect them and the escape of ISIS assured us that HPG protected them again when they withdrew from Şengal after the Turkish threats on Şengal after areas after the pretext of Turkey to hit Şengal because of their presence and these discussions were the main discussions of Şengal people.

Şengal, which has been subjected to massacres is witnessing a great development as the people of the area are working intensively to build a new system running themselves without the need of any party, and the people of Şengal have several demands we will discuss with the parliament for a delegation from Iraq to pay Şengal areas a visit and to be able to take a look at the situation of Şengal.

There are 20 Turkish bases in Başûr Kurdistan and there is an explicit Turkish occupation on Başûr Kurdistan while Turkey today is trying to expand its military base there, how do you evaluate this occupation, what is required of Başûr towards Turkey's attempt to occupy Başûr Kurdistan?

Turkey and Justice and Development Party in particular perceive the Kurds as a threat to them so they are constantly trying to hit the Kurdish gains and with any development in the Kurdish issue, Turkish attacks are increasing, their attacks on Rojava and Afrin is the largest evidence that Turkey is constantly trying to hit the Kurds around the world.

Başûr Kurdistan, it can be said besieged by Turkish state in terms of economic, cultural, media and social, there are new attempts to develop these attacks, several times in Başûr Kurdistan Turkish tanks wandering around comfortably in Başûr Kurdistan, and Turkey in Başûr Kurdistan areas strengthen its military positions and there preparations for the large attack on Başûr Kurdistan and hit the Kurds' gains, under the pretext of the attack on PKK but the main goal of Turkey is the occupation of Başûr Kurdistan.

The independence of Kurdistan and the current crisis in Kirkuk from killing and destruction in front of the eyes of the whole world and the mobilization carried out by Turkey to attack Başûr Kurdistan also in front of our eyes, all these crises is the result of the silence of the authorities of Başûr Kurdistan region. This is the result of the policies carried out by Turkey on Başûr Kurdistan, Kurdistan is not for the benefit of Kurdish people and the authorities of Başûr Kurdistan region on the Turkish violations is the main reason that led to Turkish occupation freely in Başûr.

The policy in Başûr can be described as a policy that is not for the benefit of people, but only a policy of "power", the chair and the clan, this policy has caused a hit for the gains of Kurdish people and to putting Başûr for sale.

Başûr Kurdistan is under the influence of the policy of Turkish state and Iran, and now it is too late for Başûr Kurdistan authorities to impose their policy on the ground so there is a policy of sale and not policy of interest of Başûr Kurdistan people, this is why Başûr Kurdistan cannot put a position on Turkish occupation on the territory of Başûr Kurdistan on the other hand, the entry of Turkish state on Başûr Kurdistan is opening doors for Turkey to enter on the territory of Başûr, especially economic and social and all these reasons come after the handover of the government of Başûr Kurdistan to Turkey.

What is the responsibility of the intellectuals and the people of Başûr Kurdistan to stand in front of the policy imposed on Başûr Kurdistan?

After the attacks of Turkish state on Afrin, the people of Başûr Kurdistan expressed their attitude towards Turkish occupation and said, "Başûr Kurdistan is Afrin." The truth is that the attacks on Afrin are an attack on Hewler and Sulaymaniyah, it is not possible to put the people of Başûr Kurdistan and Başûr government in one row, the people today refuse the Turkish presence on Başûr Kurdistan territory.

Today, the people of Başûr Kurdistan have great tasks and put an express position in front of Turkish occupation on the territory of Başûr Kurdistan and it is the responsibility of everyone not to surrender to this policy, Turkey is currently working to impose its policy on the people of Başûr Kurdistan, especially through the economic field and the reason is to engage the people in private matters and not raise his head in front of the policy imposed in Başûr Kurdistan and control of things in full.

The people of Başûr Kurdistan must be awake in front of these policies and not to surrender to them because the people of Başûr have many experiences and requires them to stand in front of these policies through the organization and solidarity and work in common because the fact that the current situation is weak to stand in front of current policies.

There are elections nearby in Başûr Kurdistan, how can the people benefit from them to stand in front of the policy of Başûr Kurdistan and the Turkish occupation of their land?

All the people of Başûr Kurdistan should benefit from the election phase and these are considered one of the most important stages in the current period Başûr Kurdistan is heavily involved in propaganda to describe itself as the best, but the authority that ruled Başûr in 27 years has caused a lot of sabotage, including opening the road to Turkish occupation on Başûr territory, the withdrawal from Şengal, which caused a massacre of Yazidi people, hit the infrastructure of military forces in Başûr Kurdistan dismantled a society and many of the sabotage that led to the destruction of the region's infrastructure.

Everyone has to go to the polls with a strong will to put an end to the policy imposed by the ruling authority of the current Kurdish Başûr and to build a new democratic regime to be an example of Başûr Kurdistan, an example of the rest of Kurdistan and our people have to vote for their will and not for a certain person or a particular party, but our people have to elect their will away from personal interests.
