EU supports banning chemical weapons

The council of the European Union (EU) confirmed its support to the complete ban of chemical weapons in addition to eliminating them throughout the world; stressing that under no circumstances, impunity would be considered for its users.

The European Union said in a statement on Monday, "The European Council reaffirms its support to the complete ban and elimination of chemical weapons worldwide, the council believes that its use as weapons against anyone under any circumstance is repugnant and must be condemned."

The statement also noted, "The use of chemical weapons is a war crime and the perpetrators cannot escape the punishment."

The statement added, "The latest reports obtained from Syria are considered truly shocking and must be investigated urgently and independently."

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons held a meeting on Monday in The Hague in Netherlands, after its experts started investigating in Syria on reports of a chemical attack that Damascus was accused of committing it in Douma.
