Security Council held 2 meetings on chemical attack on Douma

The United Nations Security Council held two emergency meetings on Monday to discuss the suspected chemical attack to be lunched by the Syrian regime on Douma city in al-Ghouta al-Sharqiya in Damascus as announced by the US and Russian missions to the United Nations.

America, Ivory Coast, France, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Sweden and Britain have called for holding an emergency meeting to discuss the issue of the suspected use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime in Douma.

The US ambassador to the United Nations Nikke Hailey said in a statement, “Once again, a chemical attack is reported in Syria unfortunately. The use of chemical weapons to harm and kill innocent Syrian citizens has become common."

The US ambassador added, "The Security Council must unite and allow urgent access of relief workers, support conducting an independent investigation of what has been done, and hold the perpetrators accountable for this ugly act."

The Russian mission to the United Nations announced on Sunday that the UN Security Council will hold two meetings on Monday; one of them is at the initiative of Russia after reports of a chemical attack on Douma city.
