Al-Raqqa Council evaluated its work during year

Al-Raqqa Civil Council held a press conference on Thursday at its center in al- Raqqa city to explain its work throughout one year, and to reveal the problems that it faced and the work it accomplished.

The conference began with a welcoming speech by the co-chair’s vice of al-Raqqa Civil Council Ibrahim al-Faraj who said, "Today, one year after the founding of the council and after al-Raqqa liberation from the hands of IS mercenaries, the council has spared no effort in providing basic services to the people.

Al-Faraj added, "Now the council has settled in the city and it will work directly to provide the people with the needs and requirements, and activate the water and sanitation network in addition to rehabilitating the electricity and communications networks and paying attention to the education sector, and this would be a new platform in which the council would devote the optimal situation for all services.

This was followed by reading the work’s reports of the council’s committees. According to the report of the Reconstruction Committee, the committee mentioned that it inherited a city that is almost completely destroyed. Therefore, the Reconstruction Committee was formed; volunteer specialists, engineers and technicians of various branches of engineering and administrators who started work immediately and with high enthusiasm for laying the basic brick in the reconstruction of the city.

According to the committee, the reconstruction work began by removing the rubble from the main streets, opening the roads and cleaning them of mines, and then, working on maintaining irrigation channels and running drinking water pumps in all areas of al-Raqqa and the two drinking water stations in the city despite the great damage and the dangers of mines.

The committee also launched a project to connect with all rural areas and the city to know the field realities directly, and find appropriate solutions to the problems.

The reports of other committees also were read; the report of the engineering office in Reconstruction Committee as they included the service projects provided, such as the formation of an emergency team to exhume bodies from the rubble and bury and document them.

The co-chair of al-Raqqa Civil Council Leila Mustafa appealed to the organizations of the international community and donor countries to directly support the council and reduce the bureaucracy of work that delays the construction process, and to meet its responsibilities more commensurate with the size of the needs required.
