13 killed in latest Russia-Ukraine attacks

At least 13 people were killed and dozens injured on Thursday as Russia and Ukraine exchanged attacks targeting towns and cities near the front lines, amid continued military escalation between the two countries.

Ukrainian authorities said a Russian strike using guided bombs hit the city of Zaporizhzhia, killing three people and injuring 15 others. A separate missile attack on the port city of Odesa killed two people and wounded six, while also damaging civilian infrastructure.

Additional Russian attacks in the Kharkiv, Kupiansk, and Donetsk regions left six people dead and several others injured. Residential buildings and civilian facilities, including a religious institution and a kindergarten, were also damaged.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported that one person was killed in the border region of Belgorod in an alleged Ukrainian attack. Another person was reported killed in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

In a parallel development, Moscow and Kyiv carried out another exchange of fallen soldiers' remains. Russia received the remains of 31 soldiers, while Ukraine received the bodies of 501 service members, as part of ongoing exchanges between the two sides since the start of the war.

According to United Nations estimates, June was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since 2022.
