11 ISIS mercenaries arrested in Iraq, Kurdistan Region

The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service announced today, Tuesday, that it had arrested 11 ISIS mercenaries in the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk, and Salah al-Din, as well as in the Federal Southern Kurdistan Region.

A statement issued by the service mentioned that “the heroes of the Counter-Terrorism Service carried out a series of major operations as part of the ongoing national efforts to pursue the remnants of the ISIS terrorist gangs, resulting in the arrest of 11 terrorists and the clearing and demolition of several tunnels and caves in various parts of the country.”

The statement added that “separate operations resulted in the arrest of 5 terrorists in Nineveh and 4 terrorists in Kirkuk, based on precise information.”

Within the framework of joint cooperation with the Operations Directorate of the Asayish Service of the Kurdistan Region, “a terrorist was arrested in Sulaymaniyah province, and the heroes were able to arrest another terrorist in Salah al-Din province.”

The statement indicated that “the clearing operations included the destruction of 7 hideouts in Nineveh, along with the inspection and destruction of 3 hideouts, 3 tunnels, and a cave containing materials prepared for detonation in the same province.” In Salah al-Din, “13 hideouts were inspected and cleared, 3 tunnels destroyed, various ammunition found, and mines and explosive devices detonated.” Also, “6 hideouts were inspected in Kirkuk, along with clearing buildings, 4 hideouts, and 3 tunnels in the same province.”
