Zeynab Jalalian’s health deteriorates in Iranian prison

Political female detainees in Iranian prisons face serious human rights violations. They are held under harsh conditions and deprived of medical treatment and proper healthcare, raising grave concerns about their lives.

According to a report by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Jalalian’s health has significantly deteriorated due to severe bleeding and lack of access to essential medical services.

Prison authorities repeatedly prevented her transfer to healthcare centers under various pretexts.

On September 25 of this year, 22 human rights organizations and 13 defenders, in a joint statement initiated by REDRESS and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, stressed the urgent need to provide her with immediate and effective access to medical care. They also called for an end to all forms of torture and threats against her, and demanded her unconditional release.

Furthermore, on May 1, 2025, nine UN Special Rapporteurs warned against the continuation of her arbitrary detention and denial of medical treatment. They urged the Iranian authorities to immediately enable her access to healthcare in an independent civilian hospital.

It is worth noting that Jalalian has been deprived of family visits for years. Despite her multiple illnesses, the forensic medical authority in Yazd declared her “fit for imprisonment.” However, security services have conditioned her release on showing “remorse and repentance.”
